Easter 2016

I found this awesome fabric at Hobby Lobby and had the greatest idea for it. You all know how much I'm a fan of stripes and floral prints, so to find fabric that combined the two sent me over the moon! I quickly snatched it up and purchased my 4 yards at the register.

I had the grand idea, that Bug and I would have matching dresses from this fabric. Yeah, the idea of it was grand. I got home and started working on it, and I was mortified when I put it on. I looked like a child. Like the taller version, of my soon to be 4 year old daughter. I'm 30 years old. I need to look like an adult and this, by far, was not it!

This made me realize, although I love dressing alike with my daughter, I don't need to dress like my daughter. I will from now on, do more styles where I use the same fabric for us, but the styles of the dresses are different. I like this better because we get to express individuality; and I also get to expand my sewing capabilities. Not to mention I'll be able to  look like an adult.

I ended up making us matching pleated tea length skirts. I LOVE tea length skirts now, which is odd because when I was younger I didn't at all. I didn't see the point of them. I went to H and M and bought us French blue button down tops to bring out the blue flowers in the fabric. For accessories, Bug is wearing a gingham bowtie, which is actually a hair bow. Sometimes you need to think outside of the box. :) For me, I found a lovely pearl tie in Burlington Coat Factory. I've had it for almost 2 years and I have never worn it. I was actually looking for my pearl and chain necklace and couldn't find it. It's a good thing I didn't because the pearl tie was what made me even like the outfit. *sidenote: I usually hate everything that I make at first.*I've decided to take the bodice of the dress and add something to it so I can wear it as a top instead. I'll figure that out at a later date. :)
